Editorial comment:
Based on Chytridieae de Bary (1884), a rankless taxon, which was based on the earlier concept of de Bary & Woronin (1863), the family 'Chytridieen'. With descr. & rank (as 'trida'), in Czech, by Cejp, Houby 1: 48. 1957. Sparrow, Mycologia 50: 811, 1958, without recognized rank (as 'galaxy') but subsequently given by Alexopoulos, Introductory Mycology, 2nd ed.: 35, with rank and description and referring back to referring back to Sparrow's galaxies. Stated by Loquin (1984) to have originally been published by Feltgen (1889), but this unconfirmed. An isonym, see Art. 6.3 Note 2
